Department of Nursing Science, Faculty of Human Care

Learning and practicing "human care" to cultivate medical professionals who will meet future needs
Today there are many cases in which medical care utilizes cutting-edge medical technologies based on advanced knowledge of medical care. At the same time, there is an increased risk that the human relationships between the providers of medical treatments and patients can weaken, violating the humanity of the patient. Accordingly, the medical care of the future—in addition to expert knowledge and techniques—will require the construction of human relationships to the maximum degree with patients and family members, the perception of the patient as having an individual personality, and considerate service that is in line with each individual. In all cases, nursing care in clinical treatment is undertaken via some type of personal relationship (human relations to provide assistance) between the nurse or other practitioner and individual patient. Therefore, the care provider must have an approach based on knowledge, techniques, and attitudes supported by a moral and ethnical sense of values: ample human qualities, respect for human dignity, and the desire to maintain humanity. At Tohto College of Health Sciences, we regard "human care" as nursing care backed by a reverence for human life and dignity, as well as an advanced sense of ethnics. Our aim is to cultivate medical professionals who can practice human care.
